Community Festival

June 26-28, 2026

Safety

Purpose

The Safety Committee facilitates a safe and fun environment for all attendees at ComFest. We are not bouncers or bullies.  Safety volunteers are "event hosts" working to give help and solve problems in a friendly, positive manner.  The committee seeks level headed individuals dedicated to solving problems in a non-violent respectful manner.

Learn More

Safety volunteers at barricades offer people entering the festival a Program Guide filled with lots of useful information and ComFest Rules. The barricade volunteers work with our Special Duty Columbus Police officers who oversee traffic at the entry points.

Safety Rovers mingle with the crowd and patrol different areas of ComFest looking for people needing help or information. A safety rover might encounter kids looking for lost parents or parents looking for lost kids. People also may have lost or found various items from keys to musical instruments. To reunite people with people or volunteers direct folks to the Safety Base Station at the North end of the Residence House in the middle of Goodale Park. Lost tings are at Information Station/Volunteer Central.

Volunteers working the base station assist the Base Station Supervisor, including helping with the shift change process, incident logging, and dealing with walk-up issues, including reports of lost persons.

Safety volunteers remind people of ComFest rules such as NO BYOB and no glass. People entering ComFest riding a bicycle, scooter or skateboard are asked to walk it through the park to keep both them and others safe.

Safety volunteers maintain contact with the Base Station, which helps monitor the activity of folks working their shifts. Base helps answer questions and refer questions to other committees.

Happy ComFest!

Welcome to Community Festival 2026! For 54 years, ComFest has been the progressive heartbeat of Columbus and central Ohio.

ComFest is a free event, powered by Community and sustained without corporate sponsors. Featuring the very best local music, progressive political activism and community organizing, local artisans and craftspeople and your favorite summer foods, ComFest brings the community together.

ComFest has nurtured the Columbus arts and entertainment scene, nourished small businesses, energized generations of community activists, and positioned progressive ideals front and center in our growing city.

The costs to put on this extraordinary event increase every year. Whether its permits, safety and security, trash and recycling supplies, stages and sound equipment, libations or any number of expenses, the costs of putting on this free and all volunteer weekend continue to outrun the revenues.

We’d like to take a moment to ask you to consider supporting ComFest financially. Now more than ever, this unique and vital event must be here for the next generation of ComFesters and your support can ensure the legacy begun 54 years ago lives on.

Thank you for being here: For volunteering, for supporting local music, for purchasing ComFest beverages, for shopping at Street Fair, and for signing up to protect the principles and values we all stand and fight for.

Please click here to keep the “Party with a Purpose” going strong.
Have a great ComFest.
